BIG HOLIDAY "NIGHT OF FIRE" CELEBRATION AT EDDYVILLE RACEWAY
With the grandstands full and bright sunny skies the Musco Lighting Night of Fire got underway on Saturday, July 2 at Eddyville Raceway Park. Headlining the show was NHRA Star Ron Capps behind the wheel of the "Crop Duster" Funny Car owned by Frank and Debra Ousley. In addition, Jet Cars, Fuel Altereds, Super Shifters, Super Stock Mafia and more were attendance.
The fans were on their feet as the Funny Cars hit the track. The first pair featured Capps versus Doc Halladay in the Telstar. Based on the fact that Capps had not driven the Crop Duster Funny Car before and also that the car had only been down the track a couple of times, most in know felt Halladay would be a walk away winner. However, being the true professional he is, Capps rose to the occasion and took the win with Low E.T. for the Funny Cars with a 3.95 at 182.04 mph. Halladay ran a very respectable 4.13 at 182.04 mph.
Other Funny Car highlights included the Bronge owned and driven "Punisher" that hit a strong 4.10 at 187 mph (top speed of the meet) and Rapid Randy Baker in the "Sin City" making his competition debut. Low E.T for Top Fuel was the Iowa based "Orange Crate" dragster owned by Dale Suhr. Driver Roger Lechtenberg steered the VRA legal entry to a strong 3.95 E.T.
The crowd was overwhelmed by the full 1/8 mile burnouts of the "Nitro Madness" Fuel Altered and taken back by the sky high wheelstands of the Super Stock Mafia Cars. The evening concluded with a good old fashioned fireworks show.
