WHEN A TOUGH DECISION BECOMES THE CORRECT DECISIONFor Eddyville Raceway Park track operators Gerald Kramer and Scott Gardner, the decision to cancel the Doorslammer Event this past weekend was difficult to say the least. "Relying on data from more than five weather predicting services, the decision to cancel was about the only thing we could do" said Kramer. "Although when the sun came out after we called the event, my stomach was hurting pretty bad" he continued. However, the decision to cancel turned out to be the correct one as a series of very strong storms descended into the region first hitting the closest and largest metro area of Des Moines around 5 PM and directly at the race track shortly after 6 PM. "When it was storming at 6:15 PM at the dragstrip I was relieved that the decision we made to cancel was spot on" reflected Kramer. "Having a light crowd because of the forecast and then coupled with a severe storm when we were just suppose to be getting into the feature show could have been disastrous" he concluded. As of the this writing, track management is looking at when they could bring back the doorslammer event and the 180 mph Pro-Mods. "If qualifying from Friday Night was any indication of the quality of the cars this event can draw, we can be assured it will be powerful" said Gardner. The management of ERP would like to thank all the racers and fans for understanding when difficult decisions have to be made. |
